i got an email today from facebook, alerting me that allison had posted pictures on her facebook page that contain me. so i checked them. they were nifty. i commented on one. but that's not what my post is about.
it's about this: facebook not only showed me pictures that allison had posted, but all pictures anyone has ever posted of me. and i learned something... allison is only the third person to ever post pictures of me. and she posted 17. amy has posted two. my loving little sister posted one. of my nose.
stupid sister.

thoughts on the future
Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.
Surely some revelation is at hand;
Surely the Second Coming is at hand.
The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out
When a vast image out of Spiritus Mundi
Troubles my sight: somewhere in sands of the desert
A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it
Reel shadows of the indignant desert birds.
The darkness drops again; but now I know
That twenty centuries of stony sleep
Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?
this poem is The Second Coming by William Butler Yeats, if you didn't already know. personally, i didn't until about a week ago.
then i saw the episode of angel called 'slouching toward bethlehem' and looked up the source of the name. the episode was, of course, about something big and evil on its way to destroy the world.
i didn't give it much more thought until this weekend i bought the latest harry dresden book, small favor. lo and behold, at the end of the book, a character quotes the line "things fall apart; the centre cannot hold." (although, i admit, the writer spelled it center) yes, i have been told that this line is now oft-quoted and is well known by society at large even if they don't know where it comes from.
even so... i find it somewhat odd that, having never heard of the poem or any part of it before, it appears to me twice in one week from totally separate sources. don't you think?
ok, not that i'm saying the world is about to end or anything... just that maybe we should be looking out for something weird happening? you know... like slimy green guys with horns and claws looking like they just hatched crawling up the street? or comets coming to smash the Earth to bits? or just something simple, like terrorists releasing smallpox, or setting off nuclear weapons? ...just a thought...

Thursday
well the weather said today would be 68 degrees, so me liking nice weather and liking my motorcycle i decided to ride to work.
so on my way to work this morning in temperatures in the low 30s i decided i need to move to the south.
work has been going pretty well... going through the training program to become a QC (quality control) technician right now. plus i also offered my name to join a completely new team here at work to be expanding on what we currently do. it's nifty. except our chairs. the chairs suck. they bought me a brand new one... but it was so cheap the padding was flat within a week. nice, huh? anyway... sitting on this chair is really causing problems for my back. today it's hurting so much i can barely use my left arm and i am in constant, throbbing, stabbing, shooting pain every time i twitch any part of my body. ... so today i decided i need a better chair or a job where i can lay down.
the only thing that has been keeping me from just going home, taking pain pills, and laying down the rest of the day is that i'm listening to a really cool cd that is helping to keep my mind off the pain. i'm borrowing it from beth. it's pleasure by 'malcolm dalglish and the oolites' ... they're kinda weird. it's folk music, but they do everything from traditional scottish songs with bagpipe accompaniment, nonsensical songs about staring and clouds and the types of tails various animals have, to spirituals that used to instruct slaves on how to escape to freedom on the underground railroad, to hymns, to ragtime. it's weird. they're all over the place and some of them don't even sing all that well but it's still really good. anyway... this made me realise how much i miss singing every day. so i've decided i need to become a mormon and join the MTC. it'd be totally awesome... well... except for the being a mormon part.
so overall this is being a really sucky day...
but the music is good.

a long-expected update:
we had todd and mark over sunday night to hang out and watch movies. during this time, squiggle got up to get a drink and just happened to glance at the fish tank on the way back. lo and behold there were little tiny mollies in there! yay! they looked like day-glo orange tadpoles the size of pinheads. really small. so we did what we could to help protect them from the bigger fish by giving them ground up food away from the others and keeping an eye out for them. sadly though, by today i think they're all dead. we haven't seen any since last night. could be wrong though.
and apparently either the same molly who gave birth, or the other one must have gotten into a fight with the new betta we bought saturday, cuz it had a hunk of flesh missing behind its dorsal fin. tsk tsk. i tried to chastise the betta but he just said "i'm betta than you, i don't need to listen." and swam off as if i wasn't there. at least he seems to be behaving himself since then and getting along quite well in the tank (we were a little worried that there would be too much of a current for him to breathe) (since bettas breathe air instead of using gills to breathe from the water) (they come from areas of the world with rice patties and stuff like that so they're used to really calm, still water) (and so they go to the surface to breathe) (but it has to be still enough so they don't swallow water) (kinda like when people go swimming) (except they're smaller so they need much calmer water)
i still don't have any fish pictures, sorry.
oh but work seems to be going fairly well except for the upgrade to the new version of our software. talk about bugs. honestly, esri really needs to invest in software testers. it's atrocious. oh and my boss wants to promote me soon, which is good.
sorry, not gonna talk about dresden right now cuz i haven't really come up with all the supporting evidence i need.
squiggle is happy though. therefore i am happy. oh and still hoping i'll get my computer sunday *crosses fingers* but not sure.

sorry it's been a while since i've updated. and this one won't be much, just promises of things to come. :-)
haven't had much time to update lately what with beth's new job and trying to spend as much time with her as possible (when she had training she was driving about 3 hours a day so we didn't get much time together between her getting home and us going to bed) but now i should have some more time and i promise to update again soon.
update topics shall include: animal updates (find out who had babies and who got bitten), the dresden files (find out who cowl and kumori really are, and what their real agenda is), work update (you'll never guess what my supervisor called me to his office for this week), and last but certainly not least: squiggle.
